ONO Guy

I’ve been asked several times lately, “What’s with the little fishn’ guy all over your site and book stuff?” Well let me tell you.

He is a Hawaiian petroglyph that is the sign of the fisherman. Just so you know, I’ve been signing my name with him for about ten years. I also have him tattooed on my left foot. Let me tell you the little known story of how he became significant in my life.

The original meeting of he and I happened on a windy day on the coast of Kona with me surf fly fishing. It was one of those hard core days where I worked my butt off all day, casting into the wind, trying to catch just one of the big jacks that kept cruising past, just out of range. I was unwilling to give up no mater how beat up my shoulder and spirit were. After five or six hours of sticking with it, I finally hooked and landed one.

After releasing the fish and thanking God for the experience, I sat down for a much needed break. As I sat there, I looked around me and began to laugh at myself. I realized that I had been so focused on the task of catching just one fish for over five hours I had never looked behind me. As I scanned and took in the beauty of my surroundings, I realized I had been standing just one foot from a petroglyph, the sign of the fisherman. I decided right there that in my life he would be a representation of will and determination.

In my life I have been defined by my will and determination. It has changed me spiritually, morally, ethically, and financially. I DO NOT have a “give up” button and all great fishermen share this trait. This ties in with all great entrepreneurs as well. The beautiful part is that if will and determination is all you have to bring to the table in the entrepreneurial world then you have a better chance than most. If you don’t give up, wisdom will come with doing. You just have to keep doing.

Now you know the story…
